Reading & Religion

Reading and religion are taught to grades 6, 7, and 8. These subjects prepare our Jr. High students to receive the sacrament of Confirmation in 8th grade. In addition, we guide our 8th graders through their service project as they perform various service tasks to earn letters on their graduation ribbons.

Mathematics & Science

Mathematics and science are taught to grades 6, 7, and 8. In addition, 7th and 8th grade students are guided through the completion of the science fair. St. Genevieve is a member of the Illinois Junior Academy of Science (IJAS). Many of our students have not only qualified for the state science fair competition but have also won top project awards. We also have a Mathlete club. Interested students in Jr. High will have the opportunity to practice their math skills and enter competitions hosted at various high schools throughout the Chicago area.

Social Studies & Writing

6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will participate in Project Based Learning that incorporates social studies and writing. All students are encouraged to incorporate outside resources allowing students to make real world connections. Students work collaboratively with the science teacher to guide 7th and 8th grade students through developing research papers.

8th Grade Social Studies

Eighth grade students will explore the second half of US History from the Civil War to modern times. Students will empathize with President Lincoln, feel the stress of an assembly line, write a letter from the trenches, dance the Charleston, and produce a booklet about financing.
