Why St. Genevieve Catholic School?

St. Genevieve Catholic School has served the Belmont-Cragin community for 95 years, providing a quality, Catholic education both rich in tradition and rooted in faith for children from Pre-K to 8th grade.

Accelerated Reader Program

We have been named a Master School with our Accelerated Reader (AR) program for six years in a row, and for the last three years we have received the highest national recognition possible by being named a National Honor Roll School through Renaissance Learning.  We are one of only six schools in the nation in which each classroom from kindergarten through eighth grade achieved Honor Roll status and the only school in the state of Illinois.  Through AR, students work with their teacher and our AR Coordinator to set individual reading goals.

Technology

We believe that technology is a part of everyday life, and therefore we integrate it into the classroom.  Every teacher is equipped with a laptop and a projector, with 6th-8th grade being 1:1 with Chromebooks, and a technology lab consisting of robotics kits and 3D printer.

Cultural Inclusion

St. Genevieve serves a predominately Latino community. We minister to our community by celebrating holidays like Día de los Muertos and Día de la Virgin de Guadalupe, communicating bilingually with families, and providing bilingual class aides in PreK and Kindergarten to assist students transitioning to an English classroom.

Commitment to Academic Excellence

We believe in educating the whole child and are committed to excellence and constant improvement. St. Genevieve has proven academic success implementing the rigorous Eureka Math curriculum for students in PreK to 8th grade.  It uses the same math language for all grades, focusing on fluency, base 10, and Common Core standards.  Our goal each school year is to have consistent academic collaboration
with all students PreK to 8th grade.

Our commitment also applies to science instruction.  Our PreK - 3rd Grade teachers are in a 3-year partnership with Northwestern University and the Chicago museums to improve science formation.

Our Family in Faith

Faith formation is an integral part of St. Genevieve. We incorporate sacramental formation in our 2nd and 8th grade classrooms for First Holy Communion and Confirmation respectively.  From our PreK students learning how to pray to our 8th graders earning graduation ribbons by doing service hours, our Catholic identity is pivotal.
